Mad as Birds is an independent film & television production company based in the North West of England and North Wales. From within the MAB team there's a unique blend of expertise and experience that covers all aspects of filmmaking - from writing & development to finance and production to performance and post-production and sales.
MAB's debut feature was the critically acclaimed and award winning SET FIRE TO THE STARS, starring Elijah Wood and directed by Andy Goddard. Their next feature is the psychological thriller THE VANISHING (formally known as KEEPERS) which released in 2019, starring Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm.
The feel-goodcomedy POMS starring Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver (with Sierra Pictures) had a wide release in the US via STX Entertainment in 2019, and due for UK 2020. The period thriller SIX MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT starring Judi Dench, Jim Broadbent and Eddie Izzard is releasing in March 2021 across the UK with Lionsgate and IFC in the US.
Pre-production is now set in the UK, on the moving drama THE ALMOND AND THE SEAHORSE with yet another incredible and exciting cast including Rebel Wilson and Janet McTeer scheduled for March 2021
Mad as Birds Films first TV series, MINOTAUR, is currently casting alongside its international sales and production partners Endeavour Content and The Welsh Government.
Mad As Birds is made up of Andy Evans, Celyn Jones, Sean Marley and Alex Ashworth. Working as one, each member of the team is heavily involved in every project. The company mantra is to be the place where artists can thrive, helping them fulfil their vision. As a company we love alternative, surprising and different - we gravitate to material that tells a story in an unconventional way.
Celyn Jones is the Creative Director of MAB, a critically acclaimed, award winning actor and BAFTA nominated writer from Wales. The Times referred to him as ”the powerhouse writer/performer behind the greatest Dylan Thomas biopic yet”.
Andy founded Mad as Birds with Celyn Jones after 20 years as a Producer in the digital and music industry of cross-platform content of world renowned artistic talent including Pink Floyd and U2.
Sean was MD of Lime Pictures, the biggest independent TV Producer outside of London. He was responsible for their commercial growth and oversaw the diversification of Lime’s production slate across drama, children’s and reality output.
Alex was Associate Producer at GSP Studios for 3 years and managed the process from development to delivery on over 7 feature films. Alex will focus on advancing all projects from development into production, as well as leading 20th Century Boy.
